Tawnya Nyman
Tawnya Nyman started her career in accounting in 1999. She is a Tax Manager at BA Harris in Boise and serves on committees for the American Institute of CPAs, the Idaho Society of CPAs, and the Idaho State Tax Commission.
As the proud mother of two successful women, Tawnya knows leadership is not just being a boss, it is being an example and a mentor. Effective leadership is a product of time, trust, and respect and also a willingness to be vulnerable.
Tawnya is so appreciative of the mentors who encouraged her to dream big. After multiple interruptions, Tawnya received her bachelor’s degree in Accounting from BSU and continued there until she completed her master’s in Taxation. Her early obstacles have fueled her passion for advocacy and volunteer service for the profession.
Entering the final decade of her career, Tawnya’s focus has shifted. Her biggest contributions are not the article on S-corporations that she co-authored or her presentation at a National Tax Conference (although those were fun). The highlights of her career are the heartfelt conversations with young professionals who have said things like “I owe my success to your willingness to stretch me” or “I’ve never had a boss or mentor who cares about me like you do.”
Leadership is learning how to be replaceable. Andy Stanley in “7 Practices of Effective Ministry” states: “It’s sobering but unavoidable. One day someone else will be doing what you’re doing. One day you will be replaced. Whether you have an exit strategy or not, you will ultimately exit. And on that day, everything you’ve done, everything you’ve deemed, and everything you’ve built will be placed in someone else’s hand.” This really resonates with Tawnya and her desire is to make sure she does everything she can to prepare the next group of women for their individual journey!
In her spare time, Tawnya loves learning foreign languages, trying unusual food, and exploring the world with her husband and other adventurous people.
