Alexia Armstrong Cortés
Alexia Armstrong Cortés entered public service as an AmeriCorps VISTA in 2019. A a VISTA member, Armstrong Cortés served with a place-based, collective impact organization designated as a Promize Zone by the U.S. Department of Urban Housing in South Los Angeles. Armstrong Cortés focused on increasing the partnerships’ grant application capacity for 71+ organizations, where she identified opportunities to develop and implement programming that leveraged SLATE-Z’s unique partnership between city, state and community-based organizations. Prior to her year of national service, she worked in the private sector supporting small businesses by providing operations analysis and management, focused on promoting and securing investment in local communities through workforce initiatives and goods production. Armstrong Cortés graduated cum laude with a B.A. from Loyola Marymount University. A lifelong Californian native to Southern California and the North Bay, Armstrong Cortés now resides in Boise, Idaho with her husband and two young children.
